Tulsa Ranked High
MSN published their “2008 MSN Real Estate Best Bargain” in June. In order for a city to make the list it had to meet certain criteria; low unemployment, short commute times, entertainment, and recreation. According to this study affordability is defined by ratio of median income to median house price. The cities chosen in this list have to have a population of at least 500,000, cities that made this list are everything from Dallas to Omaha. Tulsa was described as “a center for the energy industry”. Tulsa is also known for its banking and telecommunications employment as well.
Tulsa ranks 14 when it comes to “cities where buying makes sense”. Tulsa is a great place to raise a family because you get the “city feel” without having to live in the city, with all of the suburbs, Tulsa can meet any family’s needs.

I read that MSN piece as well. I really agreed with some of their picks, such as San Antonio. It’s a very neat city with tons of history, unique sites, very near Austin, and full of great restaurants and things to do. Others, I don’t agree with so much, such as Wichita, Kansas. Sure, it’s growing because of agriculture, but it’s still a bit rural and quite isolated. I am not surprised that Tulsa made this list — I think it definitely belongs on it. Interesting stuff!

You are all very lucky. I recently saw a nearby ciry describes as an ‘urban mess’ I don’t really want to say anymore.

With the crazy economy and real estate being such a mess, people are looking for a great place to live with reasonable prices. Housing affordability can really have an impact on people’s decision where to move more than ever. Looks like good things are in store for Tulsa.
